1. Refresh with white
Designer Andrew Flesher was handed a challenge: bring a
modern look to this
1930
s Cape Cod without major renovations.
His first step? Update the architecture with a coat of crisp white
paint. Painting traditional built-ins and moldings white
provided a clean background for modern furniture in the dining
room,
previous page,
and throughout the house. Andrew chose
furniture to harmonize with the simple lines in the moldings.
“The nice thing about Colonial architecture is that it has
symmetry and order. It’s not heavily ornamented,” he says. In
the living room,
above,
furniture pairs such as the tall lamps
flanking the fireplace, leather chairs, and garden stools under
the sofa table are meant to echo the home’s orderly details.
